Hospitality Management
The hospitality profession can be one of the most exciting sectors to work in, giving you the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, both customers and colleagues, leading to the development of valuable interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups of people. Add to that the flexibility of roles with shifts to fit around other life commitments, the life skills that you’ll pick up, and that you alone can put a smile on someone’s face, and you’ve got the recipe for success.
However, the industry doesn’t have the greatest reputation and can be challenging with long sometimes unsociable working hours, work hard, play hard culture, and high levels of customer demand, all making it difficult to maintain a work-life balance leading to feelings of exhaustion and burnout.
Management styles have changed in the last number of years and particularly since the pandemic, with more emphasis on wellbeing both inside and outside work particularly amongst young people. Transformational management isn’t about being perfect. It’s about striving, doing your best, and pushing that effort forward every day to inspire someone.
Human Leadership is often referenced and is split into three defined areas:
- Authentic: Act with purpose and enable true self-expression
- Empathetic: Show genuine care, respect, and concern for employees’ wellbeing
- Adaptive: Enable flexibility and support to fit unique needs
